Shooting with the Mamiya 645 1000S Medium Format Camera - by Natasha St Cyr

Mamiya 645 - since there are so many of these guys around I decided to test an older model of the 645, the 1000S. I was using the 80mm f2.8 lens which translates to about 50mm on a standard full-frame camera. I added the waist level viewfinder just because I love those. Here are a couple photos of the setup itself:

I put in some Kodak Gold 200 and headed out on a the trail. The camera is small and compact for a medium format camera so I also brought in my hiking tripod that’s super lightweight. I really enjoyed the ability to shoot 15 images per roll - it was a perfect amount for my mini hike.

I was able to take some doubles when I felt like I needed another chance without worrying I would burn through the roll too fast.

The images turned out beautiful and of an even higher quality than I hoped for!* And one of them is now my current laptop backdrop.

*pro tip: make sure to nail down your exposure, choose the correct aperture for each situation, and get the lab to scan it in high res
